24 March 1869 — 21 Grafton Street
Wednesday. 24th [March 1869]. We left town by the 11.10 train fm Waterloo to go to Freshwater. Monty accompanied us as far as Bishopstoke on his way to Cowes. We arrived at Freshwater at 4 & found a note awaiting us, at Lamberts Hotel from Mrs Tennyson asking us to lunch with them the next day. We had some tea & then strolled a little way up the Beacon Down & then came back by the Lane near Farringford. We found in the Lane some specimens of the forked harts tongue fern. On our return to the Hotel we got a note from Mrs Cameron asking us to dine, but we declined & merely walked up to see her at 9 o’cl. Saw Mrs C. & a Miss Prinsep. Mr C. was laid up with cold. Spent the eveng looking over Mrs C’s photographs for wh she has taken 3 medals. Home early.
