6 June 1869 — 21 Grafton Street
Sunday. 6th [June 1869]. To the chapel in Albemarle St. There met Mr Robert Curzon & his little girl & they came in with us for a little while. Then Gy Duff Gordon came in & we asked her to stay to lunch. She went & then Monty came. At 3 Hy & I went off to Mrs Burr’s & she drove us & her Arthur to Kew Gardens. We only saw Mr Smith as Dr Hooker has not yet returned from St Petersburg. On way home left cards on the Ar Russells & called on the Rates & found them. We dined at Ld St Germans. Met there besides Con: & L Mr Burton & Mr Jumbo Cole. After dinner Hy & I went to Sir J. Simeon’s. There met F. Palgrave—Mrs Pollock, Tennyson &c. the latter staying with F. Palgrave & just starting for Switzerland. Just as we were leaving met Lecky but I had a bad headache & we could not stay on.
