29 September 1869 — Villa Careggi, Florence | |
Wednesday. 29th [September 1869]. We went in to Florence with Mrs Sloane & left some cards &c. Henry & I went after a while alone walking to Goodban’s & Ginori to see their revival of Capo di Monte & J Majolica. Went & had lunch at Doney. As we were walking down the street we met Mrs Sloane also. I walked with her & Henry went with Ct Bourtourlin whom we met. Mrs S. took me to a shop where she thought she cd get some old lace. The man said he had some & would bring it in the eveng to Careggi. We walked on to the Sloane house. Findg we had spare time we went again to get some ribbon &c. By the time we got back Henry had returned & the carriage was ready & Boxall joined us & we went back to Careggi. In the evening the man from the toy shop who said he wd bring the old lace arrived with 3 girls & boxes of lace. We soon recognized the lace as coming from a shop in the Lung’Arno & did not buy any as the prices were too enormous & the whole thing a take in. | |
