20 October 1869 — Paris
Wednesday. 20th [October 1869]. We sent to ask Georgy G. to dine & Henry went out to the Embassy. He came back saying Lord Lyons was still absent but he had Mr Atlée. He then took me out & we walked to Salviatis & to the New Opera to see the group wh has made so much talk. We thought it frightful but not so improper as is supposed. We could see plainly the stains where the ink had been thrown over it. Abt 3 Henry took me home & then went to see the interior of the Opera House. At 7 Georgy Gordon came to dinner. She told us no particular news except that Mrs Rate has a little girl born on 13th. At ½ past 10 Henry took her home & we went to bed. We had a visit from Georgy G’s nephew Maurice Gordon this afternoon abt 6. He is studying over here.
