21 October 1869 — Paris
Thursday. 21st [October 1869]. We left for England by 9.50 train and the Embassy had sent word so we had a carriage to our selves. Henry bought some luncheon at Amiens wh we eat en route. We found the steamer at Boulogne already crowded by the people who had been waiting for the fine weather to X as there has been gales all the week. We met Mr & Lady Eliz. St Aubyn who told us Lady Molesworth had waited so long at Boulogne she had got bored & gone back to Paris to wait. I was very sick Xing and was glad to get off the boat at Folkestone & then find the Genl. & Lady Emily Hankey waiting to see us. I got some sherry at the station & got better. We & the St Aubyns came on to town in a carriage by ourselves. We arrived a little after time that is after 7 & got home to 21 Grafton St to dinner at 8. At abt 10 the M & Mr Schreiber came. We had not seen them since 1st May when they went abroad. Mama’s hair she has allowed to be white & it is far more becoming. They are going off to Scotland tomorrow for a visit to the Hopetouns.
