Friday. 22nd [October 1869]. Very cold particularly after the warmth we felt this day week at Naples. Maria did not come up to lunch as I expected. In the afternoon I took a short walk—to 9 S. Audley St to inquire after Alice Rate. We sent to ask Mr Rate to dinner but he neither came nor answered. | |
