24 October 1869 — 21 Grafton Street
Sunday. 24th [October 1869]. Henry & I went for the last time to the First Commissioners pew at Whitehall Chapel; afterwards Hill met us coming out of church & we went to the Charing X Station. Henry went off at Waterloo Junction to go down to Richmond to see Lord Russell abt Lord Amberley’s stand for Southwark wh Hy however thinks impossible to manage. I & Hill went down to Blackheath to see Henry’s mother & to tell her abt Madrid. We settled she should come up & stay with us on Tuesday week. I lunched there & came home by 4.13 train & found Henry returned from Pembroke Lodge. We had tea & then I wrote a lot of letters to announce our journey to Madrid. At 8 we dined at Mr George Glyn’s the Lib: whip. We met his sister Alice who entertained as Mrs Glyn still keeps her bed. We also met a brother of theirs & Capt: Greville (the other whip). Home at 11.
