26 November 1869 — Bayonne | |
Friday. 26th [November 1869]. We took a walk to see the Cathedral a most beautiful edifice built by the English– It is being beautifully restored & the cloisters also wh are very fine tho’ now built up & thus hidden—but they are also to be restored. We then went back to the hotel & had a visit from Mrs Graham. At 1 we left Bayonne for Madrid reached Irun about 3 where we dined of the buffet & had a berlina set apart for us. We went from there straight thro’ the night to Madrid & slept very comfortably. | |
