31 December 1869 — Madrid | |
Friday. 31st [December 1869]. My Spanish lesson– I wrote for Henry. The plants arrived also the cages. After luncheon I wrote & we had visits from Mr & Mrs Hamilton also from Mr & Mrs Madrazo. She is English & he Spanish. It was a wet day & we did not attempt to go out. We dined at the Austrian Embassy. Genl Sickles took me in & I sat next to Karnicky. We spent the evening in talking and doing games of proverbs &c &c with Mme Canitz. Some others played whist. We came home about ½ past 11. No post today. | |
