3 January 1870 — Madrid | |
Monday. 3rd [January 1870]. No further news this morning. At 2 Henry had an Audience of the Regent to present the Queen’s letter containing news of the birth of the Pss of Wales’ baby. When he returned we went out together in the carriage. We drove to the Buen Retiro & took a walk there, then did some shopping and left cards on M. Olozaga & home by 5. M. Cerruti called & we congratulated him that the Duke was out of the scrape & he was glad himself. Mrs & Miss Whyte & young Whyte called to ask me to get them invited to the Regent’s receptions. We were 10 at dinner—M & Mme Comyn, M & Mme Riaño, Messrs Ashburnham, Stephenson & Rycroft, the Belgian Minister (Blondeel). Afterwards the de Martinos, Hunts, Capt Burnaby & Miss & Mr Whyte came in. We had no music till quite the last thing when Mr Hunt sang “I arise from dreams of thee.” | |
