22 February 1870 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 22nd [February 1870]. Henry’s cold still bad & he did not get up till late & I had a Spanish lesson instead of him. After lunch I went out in the Landeau & went to see if Mme Riaño would go but found she was already gone out to see her brother at the Calle de Goya. I caught her just arriving there & agreed to go & call on Mme de Canitz & then go back to fetch her. I did not find Mme C. in so I went back at once & we went for a drive a little way out of the town & at 5 I dropped her in the Plaza S. Domingo where her husband was waiting for her & I went home. In the eveng the Dss de la Torre came to dinner also Vizconte del Cerro, M. et Mme Comyn, M. de Canitz, The French Ambassador, M. Manuel Sivela, Senr Juan Valera & Mr Ffrench. Mr de Montgomery came in in the eveng & played the piano. They all left early. | |
