2 April 1870 — Madrid
Saturday. 2nd [April 1870]. Wrote in the morning; at 3 we went out & I went to see Lady Ely who has been back two days but has been unwell. Found her better. I paid her a visit & then Henry & I went & fetched Mme Riaño & we went to leave some cards & I went to see Mme Lesseps abt the Canning child & at 5 we went to Mr Ffrench’s house to have tea with him & to see his new appartments which are most charming & nicely filled up with all the old fashioned things he has picked up here. The Bauers also came in & Mr Riaño came to fetch his wife. We walked home & had just time to dress before dinner as we dined at 7 & Cerruti came & dined with us to talk over the childs’ party we are going to have on Tuesday. We took him to the Opera with us to the Puritani in which Tamberlick sang & also Peralta for the last time. The Bauers were also in their box next to us & the Hunts came to our box.
