15 April 1870 — Madrid | |
Friday. 15th [April 1870]. When Hill came to me in the morng she told me that the mother & S. had arrived this morning at ½ past 6 & at breakfast at ½ past 9 they made their appearance. At ½ 10 Mr Cole came in. He & Mr Campbell (the manager of Menton’s works) & his son Mr Alan Cole arrived last night & went to the Fonda de los Ambajadores. We all went down to church at ½ past 11 & afterwards had luncheon & in the afternoon we all went out walking. I went out with the Hunts & found it exceedingly hot the sun being burning. The others all went off to see a church wh was reputed to have very fine hangings. We found Mme Riaño in & the Hunts left me—presently our party came & fetched me & saw all Mme R’s things & then we walked home. I wore my “manta” wh is de rigueur today. Mr Allan Cole & Mr Campbell came to dinner. | |
