3 June 1870 — Madrid
Friday. 3rd [June 1870]. Not having to go to Palmaroli I tried to write letters but it was hot & I desultory so after lunch I took my plaiting & sat in Mrs Burrs room whilst she drew. Had a visit from Le Marquis de la Laguna an upstarty kind of nouveau riche. It threatened a storm. Mme Bauer came to tea at 5 & Mr Ash: also & at 6 as the storm was distant I dressed & we went out riding & at Casa de Campo met the Regent & Dss & Co. I rode mostly with the Regent who was very agreeable. There was a little rain & thunder all the time we were out.
