7 June 1870 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 7th [June 1870]. I was rather tired & breakfasted in bed & spent the morning reading & lent the kitten to Mr Ash: to take downstairs to drive away the mice & while the [kitten] was safe away applied my mind to taming “Muley” my mule canary & let him out of his cage. I had a good deal of writing to do for Henry while he went out & when he came home he gave me more still as Henry had news that both the Bonells were safe from the Brigands the report not having been true the other day—only the uncle had been allowed to go to Gib: to get the money. Mr Riaño came to pack the jewels of the Virgin de la Pilar wh he had bought for the S. Kensington & in the midst we had to hurry them away as Mme Karnicky came to call– After this Henry gave me some more writing to do & at 6 we went out in carriage & took ½ a turn in the Fuente. I dropped Henry at Cerruti’s & came home, dressed & we went to dine with the Regent, demitoilette & no other ladies & in a small dining room– We had the Vizconde del Cerro, M. Juan Valera &c– The Dss was in very good spirits amusing herself by teasing del Cerro. | |
