13 June 1870 — Madrid
Monday. 13th [June 1870]. As I was still tired I breakfasted in bed & got up late & then wrote for Henry. Palmaroli came in to see me & also Mme de Martino to say she could not come to tea tonight as there was a ball at the Palace it being the Dss’ fête day. At 5 we went out driving tho’ a storm threatened & we took Mrs Burr to have a last look at my portrait at Palmaroli’s & to do some few commissions but the storm drove us in. Very few people came in to tea this evening; that is only the Bauers, Brehm, P. Madrazo, Palmaroli & the Molins & when they were gone we went to the Palace for a short time & found every one there. I arranged to have a picnic on Saturday at the Casa de Campo for all the children.
