5 July 1870 — La Granja
Tuesday. 5th [July 1870]. I awoke feeling very unwell and unfortunately was not able to get up and go with Henry to see the fountains play at ½ past 9. Henry went over the Palace with the Ministers & then to the fountains and abt 12 I got up. After luncheon I wrote & read but did not do very much not being quite the thing. At 5 we went out driving & I dropped Henry to fish & then drove up & down the road reading for an hour. While I was waiting at the place appointed the Dss, Mlle Paz & Sr Morillo came up in a basket carriage so I got out of the carriage & we were just going down to the stream when Henry appeared & said he had caught a very fine trout but that not having his landing net at hand it had got away. We then drove a little way further & then home to dinner. I read aloud to Henry in the eveng. The Ministers all returned to Madrid at 4 o’cl. having decided in last night’s Council to assemble the Cortès on 20th to vote for the Prince of Hohenzollern.
