21 August 1870 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 21st [August 1870]. I wrote a long letter to Susan Hambro, another to Temmy also the Dss de la Torre. We took a walk in the botanical gardens wh are very pretty tho’ not very large & then took a turn in the Fuente. Mercier, Dr Jilly & Mrs Goschen dined with us. Mercier is in a little better spirits & the telegrams he gets from Paris are more hopeful & it seems deceptive. | |
