30 August 1870 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 30th [August 1870]. Up latish– Copied a letter to D.G for Henry & then copied a song into my book wh took me all day till 5. At ½ past we went to walk in the Retiro & to give the swans some bread wh Henry had brought—I having forgotten it. Coming out of the gardens we met Mme Prim driving. She said there was no news from the war but good news of the quelling of the Carlist invasion in the N. which seems to be nothing much. We went to leave Mrs Hamilton’s music book. Mr Weisweiller called today but had no news. We expected the Hunts to dine with us but at the last moment they sent word she was not very well so we dined alone & afterwards I played the piano & we had a game of Mandola & later Cerruti came in—but brought no news, & I went to bed leaving him with Henry. | |
