8 September 1870 — Madrid
Thursday. 8th [September 1870]. Got up late with headache & slight fever. I was obliged to lay down nearly all day; at 5 Henry went to see the Republican demonstration wh consisted of abt 5,000 men women & children marching in procession. I took out Mrs Hunt & we went to the Casa de Campo. There was a lovely sunset after wh it got cold & we were obliged to have the carriage shut. It was a fête day today of the Virgin de Septiembre. I went to bed early & Henry went to see the Regent.
