20 October 1870 — Madrid
Thursday. 20th [October 1870]. Went for the last time to the dentist & then to sit to Pal & Hy fetched me home. Lesson from Inzenga. At 3 I went with Cerruti & we bought things for the childrens fête we are to have in the Casa de Campo. There are rumours of an armistice in France. At ½ past 7 we went to dine at the Regency where there was a gt dinner. The Regent took me in & Topete sat on my other side– Topete told me they are going to have a King—the Duke of Aosta– The Regent seemed preoccupied. I made the acquaintance of the Css Campo Alange also Dss of Tetuan. The former seemed a dreadful old thing & took snuff while talking to me, & disgusted me by dropping it all over her gown & neck. She is a celebrated mauvaise langue & was lady in waiting to Queen Isabella & with her at her abdication. The Dss of Tetuan seemed a very amiable person.
