22 October 1870 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 22nd [October 1870]. I went to breakfast at the Regency & sewed with the Dss. Returned at 3. At 4 I was just going to dress for riding when the Hamiltons called bringing the singer Mme Festa to be introduced. She is Irish—seems ladylike & better looking off the stage than on– Before they had gone M. Canitz came to call & then we went out for our ride accompanied by Mr Hunt. We rode by the lower Mon Cloa road & home by the upper. Dined alone—& afterwards Henry got a telegram & went off at once to see Prim abt it but was not away long. | |
