11 November 1870 — Madrid | |
Friday. 11th [November 1870]. Wrote &c in the morng. At 1½ had singing lesson– After lunch I & Car went out in the carriage. I went to see Mme de Martino who was not well & in bed. We came home at 4. The Duchess de la Torre called also Karnicky at ½ past (with Mlle Paz) & told us that the Regent hearing that we had asked her to dine with us on Monday week had told her to tell us he would come & dine too– After tea Car & I worked at the tapestry till dinner time. We went to the Italian play given at the Opera House by the Italian Company. It was a play called Milton—but both the author’s & the actors idea of Milton’s character was very different to the traditions of history—& the acting was not good. We did not stay to see it all & came home at 11. | |
