14 December 1870 — Madrid | |
Wednesday. 14th [December 1870]. I wrote busily in the morng & in afternoon we took an hour’s drive but it was very cold– We had 11 Members of the Academy of Fine Arts to dinner. I had on either side Mr F. Madrazo & Le Marquis de Monistrol. It was rather a dull entertainment as very few of them can talk French but I think they enjoyed it & after dinner we played & sang to them & I talked Spanish at a great rate & they went away early. | |
