26 February 1871 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 26th [February 1871]. I did not get up till the afternoon but read the service in bed & could hear the harmonium & so follow the service. When I got up I dressed to go out driving. Before we went Mme de Canitz came to call– She had come last night to the dance. It was the first time we had seen her for many months– She only returned from Holland on Thursday having been hitherto unable to return to her husband on acct of the impossibility of passing thro France. We took a turn in the Fuente. Messrs Ash, Sey, Go, Ff: & Spen: dined here they went away early & we to bed. | |
