5 March 1871 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 5th [March 1871]. Being Henry’s birthday I gave him the match box. We went down to church. Lunched at 1 & went afterwards to the 1st Concert at the Circo– They played very well & we had the overture to Leonora & Mendelssohn’s symphony to the Q. Victoria &c. We walked home. We had Messrs Go, Ash: Sey: Pal & Sir Thomas Dick Lauder to dinner. We went at 10½ to Mme Montijo’s; there were very few people there & I talked all the time to Mmes Quesada & Haber & Misses Brunetti & Essen. | |
