27 March 1871 — Madrid | |
Monday. 27th [March 1871]. I went to breakfast at the Presidencia & found the Dss very dumpy abt the Court. She seemed afraid Mme Prim would be appointed “Camerera Mayor” & altogether put out. I came home at 3 & wrote the bills of fare &c. & then rested till dinner time. The Serranos, Martos’, Ulloas’, Silvelas, De Martinos, Dragonetti, Koloszyc, Prieto & the Marquis d’Ahumada (A.D.C. to the Genl) dined. We had an amusing dinner & the Dss was in better spirits & beautifully dressed in a dress made by Worth black tulle with white satin stripes in front & garlands of different coloured roses—a diamond crescent in her hair & a pearl star hanging to her neck. She looked lovely. They went away early—but we had a good many people in the evening & went to bed at 1. | |
