5 April 1871 — Madrid | |
Wednesday. 5th [April 1871]. I did not get up very early as I went to breakfast with the Serranos. I kept the carriage & came home before 1. Henry had written to tell Mr Ff. he must retire from the Veloz & Ff had tho’ furious done it. I copied a despatch & a letter for Henry—& he went off to the Cortès. Mme de la Rochefoucauld & Miss Cavendish called & Mr Hunt came in. I arranged my bag for the journey & had some tea at 4– At 6 we dined & during dinner Mr Ff. came in to bid us goodbye. At 7 we went to the station & there met Em: & Mr Riaño & Juanito their boy & we went together to Toledo– Mr Bonifacio R, & Giovanni (who with Hill had gone down by the early train) met us & we got the omnibus they had got for us & we went to our Casa de Huespedes 16 C. Sta Isabela & the Riaños went to Mr B. R’s house. We had some tea & went at once to bed– | |
