10 April 1871 — Toledo | |
Monday. 10th [April 1871]. After breakfast we went to the Cathedral to meet the Riaños. Henry & Mr R went off together to see something & I & Pal & Em: went into the Sacristy & there saw some lovely Brabant lace which was on the priest’s garments put ready to wear, & a few pictures amongst which was a G. Bellini—fine but in a bad state & hung up too high to be seen. We then went to see some of the altar covering & vestments wh are so wonderfully fine. We then went to Sta Maria la Blanca to see the Casts for the S. Kensington & pottered abt till I got tired & Mr Riaño took me home. At 4 we had some tea & then the Riaños came to bid us good bye. At 5 we went to the booking office; we got into the omnibus & drove to the station. There Mr B. Riaño met us & saw us off & we went back to Madrid accompanied by Palmaroli. The train was dreadfully slow & we did not get to Mad. till after 10 o’cl: A few minutes after we reached home Del Cerro came in, he said he thought we received it being Monday but he soon departed & we had some dinner & went to bed. | |
