16 April 1871 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 16th [April 1871]. The M. Mr S. & I went to church & after lunch we went to the Concert. In the middle the King & Queen arrived– In the entr acte they had Monasterio up & spoke with him, also the Proprietor of the theatre the Marquis of Mudela’s brother. The King & Q. left early as they were going on to the Bullfight. We took a turn in the Fuente after the concert & left a few cards & came home. Messrs Ash, Sey & Go: dined (Mr Ff. had gone today to Las Navas) we had also a Mr Warburton to dinner a friend of the M’s whom she met at church. At 10½ Henry went to Mme Montijo’s & Eliz: de Mar: came to us & sat gossiping to me till 11½ & left just as Henry returned & we then went to bed– It is said that when Lindstrand (the Swedish Minister) sent to ask Martos to see him, Martos said he was too busy to see him, what did he want? Lindstrand said to acquaint him of the death of the Q of Sweden—on wh Martos sent him word he knew all abt it, he didnt want to see him!— | |
