28 April 1871 — Seville
Friday. 28th [April 1871]. After breakfast Mr Williams came for us & we all started out to walk & went to the house of a certain D. Mariano who sells old things. There we bought a cocoa nut set in silver & also were lucky eno’ to find the pair to Henry’s old cinque cento spar which he bought at Cordova– It is not in such good repair as the one we have but is evidently the fellow to it. We then went to the Alcazar where it was very pleasant & cool & I sat there quietly while the others went all over it. At 1½ we went to the Café Suisse where we had strawberries with orange juice & bollos de leche as we used to last year– When we returned to the hotel we found Mr Pickman & his son Rd who had come to see us. They sat with us some time. We dined at the table d’hôte at 5. After dinner Hy & I sat in the gallery opposite our rooms & at 8 Mr & Mrs & Miss Williams came to call– Mr Bernar also came & we sat in the gallery & had ices as the heat was intense.
