30 April 1871 — Seville | |
Sunday. 30th [April 1871]. We sat still all the morning & at 1 Mr Williams came & we went out to luncheon & then on to the Picture Gallery where the President Mr Colon met us– We sat there some time & were joined by the M. & S. Mr Colon took him in his vehicle to the University where he lives and we saw the Roclas in the altar piece in the chapel & the tombs done at Genoa—& also 2 of the family of Ribera where the men are buried between their 2 wives & are portrayed so in marble. Sr Colon then brought me to the Hotel. After dinner we meant to have taken a carriage & take a drive but there was not one to be had. After dinner while we were drinking our coffee in the patio came, Mr Bernar & his boy—also Mr Freneller (brother to Dr Juan de Valera & a Mr Andrede who was introduced to us by Mr Bauer. Hearing us lament not getting a carriage he offered us [his] & I & the M & S. went with him & we drove till nearly 9 with him in the Delicias– | |
