6 May 1871 — En route to Granada
Saturday. 6th [May 1871]. After breakfast we found that the Master of the Restaurant lived in a cottage near the station & he said he would give us a room to wash & rest in. This we gladly excepted & went there. The house was poor but clean & the people civil. We rested till 3 when we went back to the Restaurant & dined—afterwards Henry & I took a stroll & I picked some wild flowers– They are all of the same sort as those in Eng: I got 22 varieties amongst wh was the wild mignonette. The train was to have started at 5.50 but it was 3 hours late from Cordova so we did not get to Archidona till after 9. We took our places at once in the Coupé of the Dilly & went to Loja. The road was dreadfully rough & we were so jolted that I felt quite sea sick. It was a beautiful moonlight night and the mules went a great pace so that we got to Loja in 4 hours. There we met the Weisweillers who are returning to Madrid. We reached Granada on
