11 June 1871 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 11th [June 1871]. I went to church. Lady F & Miss Cracroft came up after service to say good bye as they leave tomorrow. After lunch Henry & I took a drive & we called on Eliz: while talking to her the conversation fell on the Canitz’ dinner tonight which she said was a “man’s dinner.” I said I was going, but I would look again at the invite as perhaps I was not invited. I found this was the case but Mme Canitz to whom I had sent to ask sent to tell me she expected me. I found myself the only lady besides ourselves the dinner being given to the Gentlemen of the Dip Corps & Kiamil Bey & Naurian Effendi were there. | |
