13 June 1871 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 13th [June 1871]. I went & sat again to Pal. At 2 Henry & I went to the Palace pour prendre congé of the King & Queen– The Q. received us in the private apartments—& was very kind & amiable. She was dressed in a shot silk exactly like the one I went in—what the Spaniards call torna sol gold & violet shot. The King came in at the last moment. He said he had been for 3 hours at the prisons & was horrified at the state they were in. After dinner we went to the De Martinos where there were a few people– We came home early & gave M de Aylton a lift to his house. | |
