25 August 1871 — Munich
Friday. 25th August [1871]. The Drs say Arthur’s eye is getting on well. Henry & I went to see the Dom Kirche where a service was going on in honor of the King who’s birthday it is. We went then to the Museum & enjoyed it immensely. We then went to the Glyptothek but found it shut so we went home to luncheon. After lunch we tried it again & found it open. We then went & did a little shopping & dined at 5½. Arthur G. then took leave of us & went off to Ems. Henry & I went to the Opera & got 2 seats in the same box as 2 friends of Mr Henage & next to the Dartreys & Lord Ilchester. We heard the opera of “Tannhaüser” which pleased us immensely & we had never heard except the Overture wh has been played at Madrid. We got home a little after 10.
