8 January 1872 — Madrid | |
Monday. 8th January [1872]. We had our usual evening party & had rather fine dancing till nearly 3; a great many people came & we danced the Lancers which no one ever dances here & it amused them greatly & altho they did not dance one figure right they divided & jigged about & at the end all clapped their hands with delight. One disagreeable thing happened. Count & Css de Iranzo walked in uninvited. I was taken so much by surprise that I could do nothing, however I avoided them as much as possible & when I saw they were coming to take leave of me I hid behind a door. I found out that they were related to the Madrazos & told Isabel to let them know I did not expect them. | |
