9 January 1872 — Madrid | |
Tuesday. 9th [January 1872]. Up rather late, but I luckily had no headache as I generally have on Tuesdays– I was able to do some copying for Henry. I drove Henry up to Barrals & left him to call there– I then went & fetched Emilia & we took a drive together in the Fuente & went to Mme de Martinos but she was ill & we did not see her. After dinner we went to the French Embassy—very few people we knew so we did not stay long but went on to the Dss of Fernan Nuñez to “Tomar chocolate,” which is the old fashioned Spanish way of inviting to a ball– There were heaps of people there. We stayed but a short time– | |
