10 February 1872 — Madrid | |
Saturday. 10th [February 1872]. I went to breakfast with the Dss de la T. & at one went to see Eliz: to my astonishment I found her in the garden so I took her down to the Ossuna garden where we walked for a ¼ hour on the terrace & picked violets– I then rushed home to the church practise. Tonight takes place the Dss of Bailen’s ball where the long practised minuet is to be danced. The Choteks, Canitz, Bernars, Albareda (new Govr of Madrid) Ruiz Gomez, Sidorovitch & Mr Nicholas dined with us & we had a very pleasant little dinner– We went later to Mme Alvarez to hear the Opera “El medico a palos” in which Mr & Mrs Hunt sang– The libretto is by Mr Hunt. We did not stay very long feeling the heat & I had a cold– | |
