12 February 1872 — Madrid
Monday. 12th [February 1872]. We went out driving at 3 & took Mrs Hunt & Mme Palmaroli with us—a good many more masks today. We had a very brilliant ball—quite a crowd between 4 & 500 people—Alcañices, Albas, Alazares, Bedmars &c &c. A great many came late as there was a ball at Mme Superundas’ & they came on to us for the supper & cotillion. At 2 just as the cotillion was beginning I went off to bed, having had it made up in the spare room in the tower. Henry did not come to bed till 4. I wore a new dress Hill had made me of blue tulle trimmed with roses.
