14 February 1872 — Madrid | |
Wednesday. [14th February 1872]. A dull rainy day. I meant to have gone with Mme de Canitz to the Prado but it was so wet she did not come. Henry took out Mrs H & Mme Pal: Mr Hamilton paid me a visitation crooning on for 2 hours all kinds of improbable & impossible stories of the King &c. Mme Hunt came up to see me. Lord St Asaph came to bid us goodbye as he starts tonight for Lisbon—& Mr Ash: wanted leave to go with him for 2 or 3 days. Being Ash Wednesday no more balls– Can the world live without dancing for 40 days? | |
