15 February 1872 — Madrid
Thursday. 15th February [1872]. I got up with a cold & felt very stupid. However I went out in the afternoon in the brougham & took with me B. Aylton. We went to see Eliz: & found her much better. Mme Dragonetti also came there. We had a great unpacking of the glass which arrived from Venice & I tidied my cabinet & put away the glass. Mr Whitworth & Mr Williams came to lunch. Mr Williams was an old acquaintance, having been in the Dowlais Iron works in my fathers time. He is now a rich man & manages in some other works. I did not remember him as I had not seen him since I was 8 years old. Mme de Canitz came to tea. A fine day which is a great relief after the long wet winter. Made the butterfly dress for Hamilton child–
