8 March 1872 — Madrid
Friday. 8th [March 1872]. I expected Eliz: to luncheon but as she did not turn up I went to see her & found her with a headache– I stayed with her an hour & then came home. Mr Bauer came to see us to offer us his box for the “Stabat mater” & to show us a wonderful old gold bracelet which had been dug up some where in Portugal & wh he was thinking of buying. We did not take the box as we had to go to the Barrals. Mr Ff: dined with us & arranged about going to Palma de Majorca with Mme la Romana. In the evening we went to Barrals where were a good many people & Bss de Andilla shewed us a fan she had, the most beautiful thing I ever saw both in sticks & painting. The Serranos were also there & we took the Hunts with us.
