10 March 1872 — Madrid
Sunday. 10th [March 1872]. Mr Whyte is well again & we had service, I playing the Harmonium as usual. As I had rather a headache I gave up the Concert. Henry walked there & I went to the U.S. Legation to pay a visit to Mrs & Miss Sickles. I found the old lady in & I sat chatting with her for some time. I then came home & read till Henry returned. Clarita also came to see me later. Messrs Ash: & Sey: Pal: & Emilia dined. Pal: was unusually wakeful having been for 2 days to Toledo with the Fernan Nuñez; he was in very good spirits & enthusiastic abt Toledo. Mr Gay: did not dine with us as he dined at the Palace with the only 3 other members of the Academy of His: who would accept an invite from the King.
