15 March 1872 — Madrid
Friday. 15th [March 1872]. At 8½ before I was dressed the mother & Mr Schreiber arrived on a visit. We breakfasted at 9. The M. is looking wonderfully well after her rheumatic fever of last year & S. as excited & cheeky as ever. At 12 S. rushed off to the bric a brac shops– Esq: gave me a drawing lesson. I began a new head in chalks. After lunch Henry, the M & I went for a drive, we dropt Henry to walk in the Fuente & I went to call on Mrs & Capt. Wood. Found them in & paid my visit—when we went back to the Fuente & picked up Henry & went home– At 5 Emilia & D. Juan came & brought the Spanish jewelry he had been to Gallicia to collect for the S. King: Museum. Mme Dragonetti also came. We dined alone & went early to bed.
