21 March 1872 — Madrid | |
Thursday. 21st March [1872]. Wrote in the morning & Eliz: came to lunch. Afterwards came to call the Dss of Northumberland & Mr & Mrs Hussey & then D. Ricardo Pickman so that I thought I should never get out. I took Eliz: home & then hurried to the Hotel de Paris & took out Ladies Ashburton, Wharncliffe & Caroline Kerrison driving in the Fuente & came home abt 6. D. Ricardo Pickman came to dine but he left early & I read aloud to Henry to save his eyes some of Hawthorne’s English notebook– A very hot day– | |
