5 April 1872 — Madrid | |
Friday. 5th [April 1872]. Esq: came to give me a drawing lesson. The Duke of St Albans & his brother in law Mr Grey called– The Duke is looking very melancholy, and I had not seen him since the death of his wife– He seems very intelligent & is to dine with us on Sunday. Mr Ff. called also Mme Barral & Bouillé—& as I rather expected the Dss de la Torre I did not go out till 5.30. I called on Mme Dragonetti & found her in. On leaving her I found the sun was down & it was very cold windy & dusty so I rushed off to pick up Henry at the Fuente & found him despairing but we shut up the carriage & went at once home. Ff: dined with us & Mr Hamilton came after dinner to talk over the election– Heard from S. Hambro they propose to come out here– | |
