7 April 1872 — Madrid | |
Sunday. 7th [April 1872]. I played the Harmonium as usual; a great many strangers at church. Henry went to the Concert but I have given up going on account of the heat & smoking. Col Fitch lunched with us & when he & Henry were gone, I set to work to write & read the 3rd vol of Middlemarch. The Dss de la Torre & the Bauers came to see us– The Duke of St Albans, Mr Grey, Mr Gayangos, Messrs Ffrench, Ash, Sey & Go dined with us & we had a very cheery dinner. | |
