26 April 1872 — Madrid | |
Friday. 26th [April 1872]. Directly after breakfast I went off to see the Dss de la Torre. I found them in great confusion as the Duke really is going to command the forces against the Carlists & there were aide de camps & people rushing to make arrangements for his departure. The Dss was in a very low state. I only stayed a few minutes & then came home. Col Fitch came to garden & give us news & only left us when we went to luncheon. Mme Ettling called to see Susan. At 4½ we went out Mrs Burr, Susan & I & fetched Emilia & went shopping—it was a dark afternoon & began to rain at 6 so we came in. | |
