12 May 1872 — Madrid
Sunday. 12th [May 1872]. We had church in morning. At 4½ I dressed up Susan in a black mantilla with a yellow rose in her hair & she went with Henry to the bullfight. Barral called but I left him with Morelli & went out walking with Mrs Burr. We went by the Cuesta de los Moro down to the river & got by the [illegible word] near the small bridge into the Royal Palace Gardens & going up the walls of the Palace came up to the Plaza Oriente & so home & made a good long round. But it was a dusty walk & the weather coldish. The news of the Carlists are so good that Henry thinks we may start for 10 days in Andalusia & we think of going Tuesday night. Mrs Hervey, Moret, Mr Whyte, Ruiz Gomez dined with us.
